Description

Superbena Verbena Royale series combines the vintage, old-fashioned appeal of traditional Verbena with strong, continuous blooming, greater heat tolerance and greater resistance to powdery mildew.  Superbena Verbena Royale 'Sparkling Rose' produces large bicoloured blooms in bright & light pink and white flowers that cover the mounding trailing growth habit, with low water requirements and self-cleaning flowers.

Uses

In landscape gardens and beds, Superbena are wonderful mass-planted as a groundcover to along a slope, as a low-growing edge along pathways, or as a spilling, foreground plant in a mixed border.

With a trailing habit forming as the plant matures, Superbena also grows beautifully in hanging baskets, window boxes, and feature pots. Superbena looks gorgeous as a solo planting, but also stages a wonderful foreground with great versatility in medium to large combination container gardens.

Care

Superbenas performs best in full sun to light shade and need soil that drains well. Digging compost into garden soil will help improve drainage. Always use a premium potting mix when planting into containers. Incorporate a slow-release fertiliser into soil upon planting, and water in well. Once established, allow the soil to dry out between watering. Verbena can tolerate some drought but does best in slightly moist soil. Potted Superbena will need more frequent watering during dry periods.

Superbena are not particularly heavy feeders, but in warmer regions with a longer blooming period, apply a slow-release fertiliser to garden beds once again in Summer, and to pots every two months.

Deadheading isn't necessary but if Superbena starts looking open and tired, a light trim can help recover vigour and branching and promote more flowering.

Story

Superbenas Royale come to us from the breeding houses of Japan and have now been trialled in many countries of the world. They are hybrids the progeny of which have been extensively trialled and selected for their resistance to powdery mildews that often beset the Verbenas of years past. They are found in nature across many parts of the Central Americas.

Wear gloves & wash hands after gardening.
