Description

Chrysocephalum 'Desert Flame'P is an Australian native perennial that grows to a height of 20cm and spreads to 50cm from its crown and thrives in gardens or large pots. 'Desert Flame'P is described by the Australian National Botanic Gardens, Canberra as decumbent, which means that the stems lie flat along the ground with the button-like clusters of yellow flowers turning upwards to a height of 15cm. 'Desert Flame'P  is hardy and tolerates heat and drought.

Chrysocephalum 'Desert Flame'P  has been granted Plant Breeders Rights (PBR) as indicated by the P symbol.

Uses

All Chrysocephalum are easy care plants and 'Desert Flame'P is no different, being hardy and generally free of pests and disease. If planting in a feature pot, use premium potting mix with good organic content and mulch well to help keep soil moist. If planting in your garden, choose an open, sunny spot and mulch well to help the plant establish in the retained moisture.

Once established very little water is needed, although after rain you may notice a great resurrection which is typical of desert plants.

Prune when the plant starts to appear scraggly. Severe pruning can be undertaken at any time of year followed with an application of slow-release fertiliser that will see new growth shooting away from the central crown.

Care

Chrysocephalum apiculatum grows across all areas of the Australian continent. With such a range of climates and soils, there is considerable diversity in this lovely plant's growth habits. Chrysocephalum 'Desert Flame'P  was bred by Dr Kerry Bunker, who carefully selected plants from this selection across Australia. Dr Bunker cross-pollinated selected plants with desirable characteristics by hand until the superior growth and mass flowering of Chrysocephalum 'Desert Flame'P was achieved.

Wear gloves & wash hands after gardening.
