Also known as the Firecracker Plant, Cuphea ‘Vermillionaire’® is easy to grow in full-sun or part-shade gardens, providing continuous vibrant flowering year-round. Growing to up to 100 centimetres high and 80 centimetres wide in the garden, ‘Vermillionaire’® bright little firecracker flowers emerge all along the branching dark green stems and hold as the plant grows. Small honey eating birds, bees and other pollinators are attracted to its nectar.
Cuphea ‘Vermillionaire’® is so versatile and suited for use in mass-planted landscapes, small hedging borders, and containers in brightly lit, warm outdoor spaces in either part-shade or full sun.
‘Vermillionaire’® is a heat lover and will do best in warm gardens with bright light. It won't fail without enough light but will quickly show you if its part-shade position is too shady by stretching out towards the nearest light. If in doubt, for best flowering, keep this plant in full sun. Keep moist and fertilise regularly throughout the growing season until established. Cuphea ‘Vermillionaire’® prefers not to be pruned in Winter, but if you find in Spring that the plant has become leggy after the shift in sunlight, an easy trim and removal of any spent stems will quickly return form.
