Description

Dahlia Dahlightful 'Tupelo Honey' blooms with tight buds that open into paler tones of honey yellow with deeper golden eyes as they gracefully mature all Spring, Summer, and Autumn long. The Dahlightful series was bred for its long-flowering period, its tidy and robust growth of up to 75 centimetres, its exceptional resistance to mildew, and its tendency to form few if any tubers.

Uses

For gorgeous colour, Dahlia Dahlightful is a standout in sunny, bright positions with free-flowing air movement such as mixed borders, stand-alone rows, or in feature pots either singly or in combination with other moisture and compost loving plants. Robust, upright flower stems are perfect for enjoying fresh-cut floral displays indoors.

Care

For best results, garden soil or potting mix must be well-draining and have high humus content. Prepare the bed or potting mix by incorporating a complete fertiliser with a higher phosphorus and potash content for flowering, and a lower nitrogen content to ensure foliage production does not overtake flower production. Water in well and keep moist.

Regular removal of spent blooms will increase flowering by as much as 50%, which makes the decision to cut flowers for indoor displays even easier.

As the weather cools in Autumn, the Dahlia Dahlightful will stop flowering and begin to look poorly. This is your cue to cut the plant right down and ease off watering until it begins to reshoot in Spring. Move potted Dahlias into warmer areas over Winter.

Although the Dahlightful series of Dahlias are bred to produce very few tubers, if any at all, some may form in colder climates. To store over Winter, wait until the foliage has died off before cutting back and digging up the tubers. Clean the tubers of soil, allow time to air and dry, and wrap in newspapers or pack them in peat moss. Label them, and store in a cool dark place, below 10 degrees Celsius if possible, but do not allow to freeze.

Story

The Dahlia Dahlightful series are hybrids and are selected from a breeding program in the USA. They were bred with the aim of forming few in any tubers.  This means that they are earlier finishing either in the garden or in pots.  The original Dahlias growing in nature came from South and Central America.
