If you need plants that tolerate extreme heat and drought, try the Mojave series of Portulaca, otherwise known as purslane. Portulaca Mojave 'Fuchsia' is a dry-loving, full-sun succulent that bears large, vivid fuchsia blossoms that don’t fade in the heat and attract pollinating bees and butterflies. These self-cleaning plants have a mounded trailing shape that stays full and delivers excellent garden performance all season. Mojave 'Fuchsia' offers an amazing pop of vibrancy to sunny, dry aspects of your outdoor spaces.
Portulaca Mojave 'Fuchsia' looks incredible throughout a waterwise garden when mass planted as a groundcover, as an edging plant, in rockeries, or spilling over garden terraces. Plant on its own or in combinations with other dry-loving plants in large hanging baskets, window baskets and feature pots.
The flowers of Portulaca will close at night and reopen the next day. They will tolerate dry soils, although they will perform optimally with average moisture. These are tough plants that will tolerate poor soils and do not need a lot of fertilizer to perform well. Deadheading is not needed.
Portulacas need lots of sun, very good drainage, and prefers average to poor soil. They tolerate dry periods very well but perform optimally when watered occasionally and sparingly. Deadheading spent blooms is not necessary for growth, but only if needed to tidy the plant.
