Description

Colour Blaze Coleus are primarily used for foliage interest to create a tropical effect and have been bred to bloom late in the season.  To keep the foliage as the main attraction, you may pinch off the flowers if you wish. Colour Blaze ‘Torchlight’ has deep burgundy foliage, hot pink veining, and bright yellow green serrated edges on well-branched plants.

Uses

The upright habit of Coleus Colour Blaze creates a beautiful container combination planting as well as adding an upright splash of colour to the landscape.  Semi shade will grow larger leaves which accentuates the foliage and form of the plant. Growing up to 100cm tall they are so bushy with a spread of 75 cm. The more sun Colour Blaze ‘Torchlight’ gets the more prominent the burgundy colour.  The cut stems can also last very well for several days in floral arrangements indoors.

Care

Coleus ‘Colour Blaze’ can be planted in the garden in full sun to full shade positions.  If you are in an area with low humidity, plant in part shade to full shade.  They are strong growers during the growing season, needing regular water and addition of balanced fertiliser at monthly intervals to keep them looking fabulous all summer into the autumn.  Pruning if needed is best done in the warmer months of the year.

Story

SColeus breeding has given us outstanding and better plantings over the years.  ‘Solenostemon scutellarioides’ which is the major parent of the ‘Colour Blaze’ series is a native plant in Malaysia and through other South East Asian countries.
