Most commonly called Bacopa after its previous Latin name, Sutera Snowstorm this slightly mounding, spreading shrub is much tougher than its delicate appearance implies. Snowstorm 'Everest Ice' has long stems covered in small, finely toothed, bright green leaves which are lined with delicate yet plentiful, perfectly formed flowers of white from Spring through Autumn.
In gardens and landscapes, Sutera Snowstorm is perfect as a low spreading groundcover or a cascading accent along walls, terraces and paths. In a container, Snowstorm is best placed as a foreground filler plant to spill over the edge of large combination plantings. For solo container planting, a hanging basket is the best option to display Snowstorms lovely trailing habit.
Sutera Snowstorm 'Everest Ice' is best in full sun but can manage in part shade and needs good drainage. Prepare the soil or potting mix well by digging in compost or other organic matter, and water in. Mulch, keeping away from the base of the plant, and water in well. Keep moist but not wet. Sutera Snowstorm does not wilt if the soil or mix becomes too dry, but the leaves, flowers and buds will drop off when drought-stressed. If this happens, water again thoroughly and regularly until new leaves and flowers emerge. Although Snowstorm is more heat resistant than other Sutera, very hot summers will temporarily slow flowering.
Sutera Snowstorm self-cleans, so there is no need to remove spent flowers. A light prune in the growing months is recommended to control shape and encourage branching, and applying balanced, slow-release fertiliser in early Summer is helpful.
In warmer regions, Sutera Snowstorm will behave as a perennial which benefits from a heavier prune and feed in early Spring. In colder regions with frosts, Sutera Snowstorm should be considered an annual.
